Hi! I’m Jeanette. Here’s a little bit about myself in order to see if I would be a good fit for you.
I’m a licensed professional counselor in Colorado with over a decade of experience in the mental health field. Before starting my private practice in 2018 I worked in several different inpatient as well as outpatient settings including inpatient psychiatric units and emergency rooms. I have worked with families, individuals, children, teenagers, and adults.
I practice mainly from person-centered standpoints which emphasizes everyone’s innate ability to change and grow. I have worked extensively with survivors of trauma, and am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I wholeheartedly believe in the biopsychosocial model of mental health. That is, effective mental health treatment has to address the biological components of wellness (good sleep, good nutrition, medications if needed), the psychological components (our thoughts and feelings), and the social components (relationships, family, school, etc). Focusing only on one or two of these areas isn’t enough to make lasting changes.
I am very passionate about physical activity and the importance of integrating it into everyone’s daily routine. I also emphasize the role of nutrition for mental wellness and have received additional training in this area. Our brains are a part of our body and any mental health treatment should include significant time to ensure that you are also in good physical health.
On a personal note, I am married and have three great kids ranging in age from preschool to high school. As a parent, I absolutely understand the stress as well as the reward that comes with raising little ones in today’s crazy world. Whenever I get a chance, I’m out walking my German Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog mix, Skips, and my Staffordshire/Lab mix, Teegan. CrossFit has also been a big part of my family’s life for the past several years and is my main stress reliever. I’ve lived in Arvada for the past 15 years and, while I’m not a native, I definitely consider Colorado home.
I love my work, and I think that my enthusiasm for what I do comes out when I’m with clients. I look forward to joining you on your journey to wellness.
